Holy Bovine!!! Life is better now...

I must use earplugs (always in sleep and in extreme areas) as noise now gives me a headache (stress?). These, I can tell you as a professional amateur, are the finest available PERIOD. Squishy, comfy and DEADLY quiet. BEWARE!!! as all foam earplugs LOOK the same, orange or pale and foamy. They are NOT the same, stick with 'Hearos' (I have done the tests over twenty five years of use) and change them when they lose 'spongy-gooey' quality (for both comfort and performance). BUY and your life will be higher quality (use in the plane and in really noisey spaces!
They do the trick!

Over the years I've become a light sleeper. When I moved onto the street level of a busy street, I went for days without it, distracted from unconsciousness by the roar of cars and trucks breaking and honking at the nearby traffic light. I finally dragged my weary self to the nearest pharmacy and purchased my first package of ear plugs. Four well-rested years later, I've experimented with brands and sizes and conclude that these are the ones for me!
They work for me

I sleep with a heavy snorer. I mean, blow-you-outta-the-water snoring. I tried numerous other ear plugs, and they all worked a bit, but never enough to allow me to sleep in peace. These work. You must follow directions, though, and insert them properly. But once they are in place, it's off to slumberland. Thank you, Hearos!
Worked precisely as I expected...

I bought these as a freshman coming into college to block out the horrid noises I was told I would hear in my dorm. The main reason I chose these specifically was because they had the greatest noise dampening rating and, as reviews claimed, were comfortable -- both of these claims are correct.

The Hearos fit comfortably in the ear and don't bother me when sleeping or performing daily activities, and they block out sound quite well. I could still barely make out the sound of voices outside my dorm room (if someone was shouting or just being really loud), but under normal circumstances, they made a world of difference.

Don't let the product picture fool you; you get three packs of 14 pairs, so there are plenty of them, and they are reusable, though I wouldn't wear the same pair for a month or anything. I'll definitely buy these again when I run out.
blissful silence...

I live in Uganda, in east Africa. Zoning laws? Say WHAT? You can find an all-night bar opening just down the road from your home. It's a rare hotel that's quiet--and I travel a lot. Thin walls, noisy bar, trucks, cars, call to prayer at 5 am, and motorcycles zipping past at all hours. Hotel life used to be, to put it mildly, quite annoying.

Ah, that was before my little blue Hearos. I would pay the price of a full pack for a single pair. There are other earplugs out there, but none like Hearos X-treme. Very soft and comfy. They roll up small and expand slowly, so you have plenty of time to get them in your ears. In the 30 seconds that they take to expand, sounds fade, then disappear altogether. I'm enveloped in a cocoon of blissful silence. Just knowing all of that noise is out there and can't touch me makes me sleep all the better.

Some other nice features...if you are cheap like me or don't want to re-order, you can wash them in soapy water, squeeze them out in a dry washcloth, and they're as good as new after a few hours to dry out. Be sure to rinse them out several times like you would a sponge--by squeezing them, letting them soak up fresh water, and squeezing them out again--as any residual suds will affect the way they expand. I've yet to wear out a pair.

Have tiny ears? So does my wife. We just got some good scissors and pruned them down to size for her. And, they won't tear. I've put some other earplugs a bit deep in my ear, and when grabbing a corner to pull them out, they would break off. Not the Hearos Xtremes.

This is one of the cheapest ways to dramatically improve your life if you live or travel to noisy places, or live in one. I keep a pair permanently in my travel bag, and another on my bedside table. Sweet dreams!
Look no further !!!

Comfortable and effective. If the noise is coming from outside the room than these are 100% effective (from within the room 80%). They work like a miracle (if inserted properly). Insertion is easy after practicing a few times (seeing the insertion technique video on Hearos website helped). You can keep them on all day long or sleep with them without experiencing any discomfort. Will recommend buying with the Hearos plastic case the first time so that the buds don't get dirty. You can use a pair for at least a week.

I would pay a dollar for a pair, that tells you how much of a difference they have made to my life.

P.S. Note: I researched for hours on the internet reading reviews, these are the best ear plugs available out there at the moment.
Great Plugs

Not a whole lot to say hear. If you are looking for some of the highest rated plugs on the market, these are the plugs for you. I use these plugs along with my muffs for shooting at the range. They are rated at 33db, basically the highest rating you can get without getting a custom plug. They are very easy to insert, and are very comfortable for long term wear, which I did not find to be the case with many of the rubber flange style plugs.

I work in a noisy office, with conversations going on around me. Personally, I need quiet to concentrate on my work. I found it so stressful, I was considering leaving the job. Some coworkers cope by listening to music, but I've never been able to do that when I'm really trying to solve a difficult technical problem. "Hearos" really are my heros -- they saved the day. (And I didn't even get the pun in their name until I'd used them a month. Duh.)

I've tried several brands of earplugs. These are not only the most effective I've found, they are also the most comfortable. I can wear them for hours at a time without even being aware of them.

After three months of torture (very noisy environment)I finally got some sleep! Tried other ear plugs (wax ones) but these one are the most comfy, gentle to my ear canals and take the shape I need. Highly recommending.

Last night I tried the Xtreme protection ear plugs and loved them. My husband is a snorer, and they blocked that out really well. I didn't wake up at all during the night, so they were a great buy. They were initially bought for an upcoming trip to Europe, where an extra bedroom to sneak off to is not an option, but I plan on wearing them every night. I live on a fairly busy street, and these blocked out the loud stereos, voices, and other sounds too. Very great find.
Work GREAT!! Never buying another type of plug!

I've tried many brands of earplugs and most are uncomfortable to wear or do not block out enough sound. These blue Hearos are the best I've used. I can now usually sleep straight through the night, even if my neighbor has his loud TV and radio on - at 2am, 3am, 5am! These earplugs are very soft and comfortable.. made of some miracle squishable/expanding material that doesn't irritate my ear or make them itch.

Thanks to the reviewer who suggested cutting off the outer end so they won't stick out so much and pull out during the night. Sometimes the earplugs will catch on my pillow and get dislodged. Snipping 1/4" off the flat end really helped to keep these in through the night. What a relief to find this great product!
Life saver

I used to use the ear plugs they would hand out in business class because they were free. The blue Hearos are clearly a class better than the free stuff. I always keep several pairs in my travel bag for use on flights. And I sometimes use them in the office when noise levels are high and I need highest levels of concentration. This is a super product for a good price. Highly recommended.
great earplugs!!!!

Effective product

Review Date: June 3, 2010
Reviewer: G. O. Martinez,
This product is amazing. I am extremely sensitive to noises, they make me jumpy, nervous, and most of the time annoyed. These earplugs shut down extreme noises, while you are still able to hear important sounds.

Examples:
- Amazing to sleep with them. Blocks out loud neighbors, cars, dogs, and noisy family members in the same household. However, I can still hear my alarm clock in the morning.
- I use them while driving. It blocks out most of the noise, while I can still hear if someone honks at me or if there is an ambulance or train nearby.

They are soft, and easy to place and wear. They don't hurt my ears, which had been a problem previously with other products. Each pair lasts about 10 days, after that they lose the smooshy feeling and they don't block noise that much.
These Are Great!

Because I'm a writer who works late into the small hours of the night, my sleep schedule is shifted a bit from the most everyone else's. I usually am up until 3:00 AM and sleep till 11:00 AM. The rest of the world is up and going about its noisy business during part of those hours and I fought all kinds of external noises--lawn mowers, barking dogs, screaming kids, the repeated trips of the garbage collectors on Thursdays, AND a CPAP machine next to my bed. Even a fan was too loud to let me rest. The I found Hearos Xtreme. Aaaahhhhhh . . .

I can now sleep through a ringing phone, most of the barking and mowing--they're great! If you work odd hours or are sensitive to noise (like a snoring partner) get these ear plugs. Follow directions for use and you'll slowly hear the outside work fade away.
I Am Addicted To Earplugs

Review Date: August 5, 2010
Reviewer: D. Bobrowsky,
I've worn earplugs every night for the past five years. I've tried all different kinds. These, by far, are the best.

Most earplugs, once they're in your ears just right, do a pretty decent job of cutting out sound. However, I've had difficulty getting that perfect fit with lots of other earplugs (including Hearos Ultimate Softness). Other earplugs seem to "kind of" fit, but unless I waste a lot of time adjusting them, they never form a good seal in my ears and therefore don't block out sound very well.

Not the case with these earplugs. They conform to my ears perfectly, first try, every time.

Disclaimer: Your experiences will probably vary according to your own ear shape.

i work nights and have to sleep during the day.
Between dogs and kids and usual house noises this can be tough.
These plugs do the trick.
I have used other otc plugs and have been disappointed, usual b/c the plugs fall out or are hard to insert.
Just roll these between you fingers and insert as packaging states.
Comfortable and don't fall out.
I would recommend these to anyone that needs plugs to sleep.
Great For Loud Snoring

Review Date: December 19, 2009
Reviewer: K. Adams, Charlotte, NC
My in-laws are very loud snorers and the guest room is right next to my bedroom. Prior to purchasing the Hearos, I would get very little sleep. The Hearos plus an small fan blowing, eliminated the noise. However, I did wake up a couple times and found that one of them fell out. Very easy to get in ears.
Motorcycle Riding

I use these when riding my motorcycle. They block out my loud GSXR exhaust very well, but I can still a lot of higher frequencies. The amount of noise they block out doesn't seem any more than my old silicon ones, but these are much easier to put in, and reuse.
The best ear plugs ever!

From a review of three earplugs, these came in third:

1st place: Hearos Ultimate Softness, 20-Pair Foam (Pack of 2)
2nd place: Quiet Time Comfort Foam Ear Plugs - 50 Pair
3rd place: Hearos Xtreme Protection, 14-Pair Foam (Pack of 3)
(they're basically ranked in decreasing softness, since all three block out sounds well)

You might take a look at my review for the winners:
Hearos Ultimate Softness, 20-Pair Foam (Pack of 2)

The following were excluded as they did not fare well in the following review:

Flents Quiet! Please Noise Reducing Ear Plugs - 50 Pair - NRR 29

and Howard Leight Max-1 Ear Plugs, Uncorded, NRR33, 200 PR / box

w w w . s l a t e . c o m / i d / 2 1 1 8 8 0 0 /

or read the first review found in google with the search term: best ear plugs

Pros: Blocked out sound well, but not better than the others
Cons: Was the least comfortable of the three because they exerted the most pressure on my ear canals.
Caveat: I have small ear canals.

Note: These are rated 33dB
