Stays moist during use

Review Date: February 18, 2010
Reviewer: SisterZ, Wisconsin
I've been using these for a few weeks to do a daily "swipe" of the bathroom sink/counter and toilet seat. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. I bought it somewhat on impulse when I found it for a really good price. I'm pleased with how moist the wipe stays -- moist enough that I can use one wipe for the whole bathroom (starting with the sink/counters and finishing with the toilet, and folding it over as I go). Of course, this only really works if you're doing it on a daily basis so that you're really just maintaining the area; if you weren't doing it daily (or near daily), you might need to use more than one wipe.

The smell is rather strong. It's somewhat of an antiseptic/medicinal smell and it does linger for a bit. At first I didn't care for it, but after a week or so, it actually kind of grew on me.

At this pace, it will take me about 10 weeks to go through one container; I cannot comment yet on how well the wipes will perform when I'm getting toward the end of the package.

UPDATE (7/21/10): I still had some left in one container 6 months after opening, and the wipes were still plenty moist! My teens don't like these wipes (particularly the smell) and prefer to use a spray with a paper towel for their daily "swipe" of the counters and toilet. But I still like these wipes for the convenience factor.
I've been waiting for these!

As a certifiable germaphobe who also dislikes chemicals, I long wished for a product like this. The wipes are just as good as the disinfectant spray by Seventh Generation, but even more convenient. Super product!
Excellent Product!

This is my first 'green' product and I'm more than pleased with it and will definitely continue to buy and use it. As an avid herb gardener, I find the lemongrass & thyme scent quite pleasant, like being in my herb garden after a rain shower. Unfortunately, our brains have been programmed for years into thinking that unnatural, chemical scents are the norm and when we smell a natural, earthy, botanical scent, it's foreign to us. And it sure beats using harsh bleach which has such a horrible smell and is so bad for the environment. I'm glad to have discovered these earth-friendly botanical wipes. I'll be sharing my find with all of my family and friends.
Good for all kinds of cleaning

I got these as a review product as part of the Amazon Vine. Overall, they are a very good cleaning product. I tried them on several different surfaces, including my stove top and microwave and they did an excellent job on all of them.

The main scent of these wipes is Thyme, which I have to say I like better than the antiseptic scent many cleaner leave behind.I especially like the way the dispenser works, with a large crescent opening when you need more than one and the smaller "+" for one at a time wipes. The wipes are very wet when first pulled from the dispenser which can be a problem for a small clean up, you might have to use a paper towel to clean up the cleaner, and I wouldn't use them on electronics till you have let them dry out a little. After I did, it worked great on my keyboard and phone.

As too the Virus and germ killing aspects, if I was dealing with a definite contamination, I would probably go with another brand with a chemical germ killer, but as a preventive measure, these organic ingredients will do.

It is a little pricey, but when buying "green" products, you have to spend more green too.
Great Multi Surface Wipes.

Reviewer: Templeton,
Before I received this item, I wasn't to sure if this item would work since it does not have any chemicals in it. These multi surface disinfecting wipes are great, and they leave behind a lemony scent that's not too overpowering. This tub they come in is very handy, and is very effective because it keeps the wipes nice and fresh unlike alot of those other brands where the wipes dry out quickly, or all come out at once.

I would recommend this to anyone, but especially to those who are interested in being green but still disinfecting their items.
Great product--portable, effective, no harsh chemicals!

I've been using a different brand of disinfecting cleaner for a number of years that uses thyme oil--the same active ingredient in these wipes--and was impressed with the effectiveness without using chemicals. Since I can no longer purchase that cleaner I was thrilled to see Seventh Generation offering these. I keep them in the kitchen and use them primarily as a followup to washing my hands after handling raw meat/poultry, and then wipe the counter with the wipe. They are moist enough but not messy; really handy to have around. Definitely recommend.
They Do the Job (Relatively) Safely

Review Date: May 4, 2010
Reviewer: David Bennett, Ohio, United States
The active ingredient in this product is thymol, a natural component of thyme and oregano that has been shown to have antiseptic properties. It kills viruses, bacteria, and even some fungi. I trust thymol to be effective, and yet safer than the chemicals in similar products. However, this is not to say thymol is completely non-toxic. It can irritate the skin and eyes, and some experts believe that thymol should only be taken internally in very limited amounts (some Oregano Oil supplements are high in thymol).

My overall impression of this product is generally positive. First, I like that the product is natural. Second, my wife and I both like the smell. It smells like someone mixed fruit and an Italian meal. However, it took both of us some time to appreciate it, so I can understand why some reviewers can't stand the smell. Third, the wipes stay moist for a long time. Fourth, and most importantly, they do the job just as well as other disinfecting wipes we have used. My wife and I have used them to wipe down various items around the house, and the result was always satisfactory. Fifth, this product, when bought in a 6-pack, is pretty competitive in terms of price with other disinfecting wipes out there, which is not always the case for Seventh Generation products (usually when something is "green," the price shoots up). The only real drawback to these wipes is that thymol is not necessarily completely safe and non-toxic. Yes, thyme and oregano are pretty safe, but concentrated thymol, as I mentioned at the beginning of my review, can irritate the skin and eyes, and may cause reactions in people with sensitive skin. This means that some people may be better off using plain-old "non-natural" disinfecting wipes instead of these "natural" ones.

As I said, overall, my wife and I enjoyed this product, and will likely buy it again in the future.

The Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Wipts (we'll call them 7s for short because, let's face it, they have more name than they need) have, apparently, had six previous incarnations. I'm guessing generation 1 was the alcohol swaps in the packets they used to hand off in grade school. But this product is excellent. The wipes themselves smell pleasant, stay moist while you're using them (the alcohol ones always seemed to dry up after the first swipe) and, according to the product literature, kills 99.9% of most germs including flu. What's more, the packaging assures us that they are 'green,' safe and organic, . None of which would matter if they didn't also work, which they do.

Now I can't really speak to how many germs the product did or didn't kill. I'm not certain that was my intention in purchasing the product. What I was looking for was a way to clean up, in the kitchen, hands, faces, etc. That'll kill germs too, I just don't know how many. There's a little bit of sudsing action (assuming that sudsing is a word) but that's just breaking up the grease, grime, dirt or whatever you're cleaning. They last too. I can clean my whole kitchen counter, which is fairly large with just one or two wipes and they do a thorough job.

I'd recommend this product to anyone, particularly anyone who has or makes messes!
Great new product to clean with.

For a while now I've been trying a wide range of green cleaning products. It's a real hit or miss area out there. Even with Seventh Generation there are great products and not so great, so when I saw these I got them knowing they might not be all that great. I was wrong on this one. The product is wonderful. First off the wipes are real moist and stay that way. I have been using whips in my bathroom for years and have issues with tubes of them going dry real fast no matter how careful I was to close it. These have been nice and moist for almost six weeks now with no end in site. The next good thing is that the smell is nice, light and fresh. The scent is a little on the green side and is nicely refreshing. Also they clean VERY well. I use then in the morning after I shower and love them. I totally would get these again.

I received this just before my wife and I left for a camping trip to Joshua Tree. Being we had to bring our own water, I thought maybe these would come in handy for sanitizing whatever needed to be cleaned or disinfected. So, I threw them in the car.

I'm more than pleased. They have a very pleasant thyme scent, not something I usually associate with cleaning and so it didn't leave that expected "just cleaned" smell. They are nicely sized. Though they are a little tricky to pull just one out of the canister without tugging the next one a little too far, this is not too much of a bother. While on the trip we used these for all kinds of surfaces, from skin (cleaned off my feet) to cooking utensils, to all sorts of other things. They are quite moist, more so than I'm used to, but that makes for good cleaning when water isn't handy.

I'd definitely buy these again.

I have been using these wipes at work for few months now, and I love them. They are moist and do great job cleaning - remove everything from dirt (including dried-up dirt)to plain fingerprints. I love the thyme smell - it is wholesome, and for sure beats synthetic perfumed or ammonia smell of other wipes on the market. Yes, kitchen smells a bit like thyme, but the smell is not over-powering and feels natural.
I prefer using reusable towels and spray at home, but if you need disposable wipes, these are the ones I would recommend.

I cant' say enough good things about this product, it's a bit more eco friendly than most regular wipes that people use, my mom who has skin allergies had to stop using her Clorox wipes because they made her break out in hives, but not with this baby. I keep one canister in the kitchen by the sink and at the end of my night of dishes, cooking and more dishes; I wipe everything down with this, the counters, the stove, the sink, etc. It's even great to use in the bathroom on toilet seats and surfaces that collect dirt and bacteria. The wipes are very wet and well saturated, one can clean quite a bit of space, it's nice not having to use five of them to clean a large area, and usually I can get away with one.

These wipes clean up any kind of grime nicely and best part is that the solution evaporates from all surfaces, making the use of a paper towel obsolete. Anytime I get to skip a step, save a tree and still clean I'm happy. The scent is a powerful herbal explosion, but I like it, I'm quite used to it by now and it doesn't bother me in the least. I'd rather inhale herbs than fake clean scents that probably cause more damage to our systems and environment than we are led to believe. Once I ran out of this I am definitely getting more, these get an A + from me.

Good alternative to Clorox or Lysol

I don't like using rags and sponges on my kitchen counters, because studies show that they spread bacteria. I use spray and paper towels most of the time, but I would prefer to use wipes. However, I don't like the chemicals in most commercially available wipes or the fake chemical scents. So I was very happy to find these wipes available at Target for almost the same price as the Clorox & Lysol wipes! And I love the smell, a fresh herbal smell that I prefer infinitely over fake lemon. As for how these wipes work, they are great! I can use one wipe to do my whole counter, so I think they'll last for a long time.
Very worth it!

The smell is a bit strong, but it goes away after a while. The price is reasonable and I feel great about using a product that is better for the environment than your typical lysol/clorox wipes.

I really like this product and plan to use it in place of wipes I now use. These leave a pleasant, lingering odor of thyme, unlike the harsh odor from wipes I have used in the past, and they have done a good job on many kinds of surfaces: glass, plastic, stainless. Good stuff!
Thymol versus Ammonium Chloride

Review Date: May 15, 2010
Reviewer: David Stapleton, California
The key selling point here seems to be the use of Thymol (a phenol) as the disinfecting agent (I had been using Chlorox wipes that use Ammonium Chloride as their disinfecting agent). Thymol is a biologically derived essential oil that has antimicrobial activity (I wasn't able to find a specific link as to the anti-viral mechanism of action, but I'm guessing it has some activity on the viral glycoprotein envelope.

I don't carry around a microscope or grow swabbed cultures from my counters, so I can only go on the claimed effectiveness: Chlorox-99.9%, 7th Gen-99.99% kill percentages. Smell-wise I prefer the light perfuminess of the Chlorox over the heavy lemongrass of the 7th Gen. Packaging - the Chlorox wins again as the top is closed except for the hole that the wipe pulls through (less drying out), versus the wide open top of the 7th Gen (note: both have lids to completely close the top when not using). The actual wipe materials are comparable, as are the sheet counts. The price is roughly equal as well with the 7th Gen costing a few pennies more.

The bottom line is that I would use either one for cleaning, I do not see any compelling reason to use one over the other, and the 7th Gen product is a perfectly viable product. P-)

I really like these wipes as I can use it on just about anything. I am not afraid to use it on my baby's toys, cups and utensils. It cleans really well and the wipes are made from a nice durable materials that allows you to scrub with them. The smell is sort of herbal and woody, but not bad at all. I like to use them especially when anyone is sick to help contain the spread of germs. The dispenser works well and the container is larger than most.

Great surface wipe with good moistening capability. The smell of thyme is a bit strong initially but it vaporizes & goes away in a few minutes. One good thing is that your hands won't feel dry after using these wipes (Wipes usually contain alcohol which makes your hands feel dry), probably because of Thymol.

I use disinfecting wipes at least five times a day so I thought I would give the Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Wipes. These wipes were great. I think I used them all in five days. I used them to clean up everything (after spills, people & pet messes). Every wipe was very moist unlike some of the other products you buy. If there was one thing I didn't care for it would be the smell on your hands after you use them. It wasn't completely horrible just a little over powering. I will buy this product again.

I have been waiting for a product like this for such a long time! When my daughter was young, I used lysol or clorox wipes on her toys and around the house, and was later, the more educated and holistic me was really grossed out that I had done so when I realized the chemicals my baby had probably eaten off of them!

These wipes start out a little over wet and sudsy, which bothered me at first, until I realized how much they enable you to clean with one wipe, which is especially great when buying a slightly more expensive product. Also, despite the visible suds on the wipe, I didn't really notice them showing up on the surfaces I cleaned, and certainly left no residue or mess once they dried.

I'm glad that they teamed up with clean well to include the disinfectant, as I already use their hand sanitizer spray and have come to trust it. The smell is something that a user just has to come to terms with. Personally, I like it -- it's the heavy chemical smells of traditional cleaners that I find hard to take. It's a bit strong at first, but like many natural scents, it grows on you (or at least it does me).

I also love that you can go to seventh generation's website and easily find the FULL list of ingredients. I'm no expert, but I'm somewhat knowledgeable about chemicals, and I don't see anything that jumps out at me as a concern. Some don't like laurel sulfates (the sudsing agent), but I don't mind it as much on a cleaning cloth as I do on body products.

All and all, I'm delighted there is such a product available now, and for the rare times I do want this sort of cleaner, I will use this instead of lysol or clorox wipes without hesitation.
Probably a 5 if the odor would not have been so overwhelming! So a strong, 4.5.

I ordered this product with several things in mind. First, it is a 7th Generation product that is environmentally friendly and kills 99.99% of common germs including H1N1 and salmonella. When I received this product in the mail, I marveled at how even though there was no seal, the towels were moist (overly so) and easy to use (meaning a good size and texture) and seemed durable. I quickly began pulling them out and using them all over the house. I wiped off the counters. I wiped a spill on the floor. I walked into the bathrooms and wiped various surfaces. And can honestly say that I loved the fact that they were again "extremely moist". We all know how some wipes dry out either as you use them or as they sit up in the container. The only draw back that I can see to this product is......I can't decide if I like the odor. I lean strongly in the "it seemed a bit overwhelming" column. I am kind of sensitive to odors, and know how thyme smells, but it was a bit too strong. And the scent really lingers...several minutes after use. And even on your hands, the odor is strong even after washing them several times, the scent was still there. AND I know what some of you are saying, the product clearly mentions "thyme based technology" or "thymol" (thyme oil), but I wasn't really prepared for just how "herbie" (if that is a word) it smells. And finally, if it weren't for the odor, I would really LOVE this product. But maybe over time I will get use to the odor and kick up my review from a 4.5 to a solid 5.
Great for Kitchen Cleaning

I buy a lot of Seventh Generation cleaners, especially detergent, so I was very interested in these disinfecting wipes when they were offered by the vine program. I decided to try them out in the kitchen and really liked how they worked. The cloth is a little tougher than Clorox wipes which works great if you are cleaning kitchen counters. The cloth didn't dry out fast and even seemed to do a good job on the stovetop. I especially liked how it cleaned my stainless sink. Usually I use Softscrub and that always seems to leave a little residue. Anyway, while cleaning it was as if I was growing an herb garden. The scent is mostly thyme and it doesn't last very long. I probably won't use these in the bathrooms because of the scent but I can recommend it for kitchens!

We normally use clorox wipes around the house but I was very pleased with these wipes and in many ways these are better. They are very moist, thus they go a long way. I wiped my whole kitchen counters with just one and a half wipes. The smell is organic and pleasing to the nose. They also worked great on my bathroom sinks. I'm very content with this product.
Good; very wet (some may mind smell, I don't)

Review Date: April 1, 2010
Reviewer: R. Morris, Iowa, USA
First off, I have no real complaints about these wipes: they do a good job cleaning and they stay moist for fairly long. However, perhaps a tradeoff for how long they stay moist is that they seem a little soapy (the cloths themselves are actually very wet), and they tend to leave a bubbly trail wherever I use them. Despite this, it doesn't leave a residue or anything, but it is a bit unusual.

Do note the directions, which are typical for all such cleaners/disinfectants: to clean, just wipe the surface down as you wish; to disinfect, wipe the surface down so it stays wet for 10 minutes, then allow it to dry naturally. Rinse direct food contact surfaces with water--I actually do this with almost all of my surfaces in the kitchen, even though they aren't all food contact surfaces. (Again, this is standard procedure for most products.)

I find the rinsing also lessens the smell, which some people may find disagreeble. Personally, I don't mind it, but you might want to smell these in a store or buy a smaller container first before committing youself to a larger volume. The scent, lemongrass and thyme, isn't really intentional: it's a result of the cleaning product itself. Thymol is the disinfecting agent, and it smells like thyme; lemongrass oil is not listed as an active ingredient but may have antifungal or other beneficial properties, and I suspect that its inclusion (assuming the product does actually contain it) makes the scent a bit more agreeable. I would much rather have this smell than use other, harsher products.

The smell, by the way, is the same as in the lemongrass and thyme disinfecting spray cleaner, Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner,26 oz. Trigger,Lemongrass (SEV22810) Category: All Purpose Cleaners. I suspect the products are actually nearly the same, and I think in the future I'll actually just use the spray cleaner; that way don't need to use a disposable wipe if I don't need to. These are probably mostly useful if you need something on the go; for most uses, I suspect a regular spray cleaner may be better (coupled with a paper towel, you have the same thing; coupled with a reusable cloth, you've got an even more eco-friendly solution).

I am a fan of Seventh Generation products, as they use natural green formulations as opposed to the nasty chemicals other products often use. This is a good product that stays moist - unlike many wipes that come in tubes and dry out quickly. I had anticipated a more pleasant aroma - but these have a very subtle smell that is neither pleasant or unpleasant.
a sudsy, herbal-smelling, non-bleachy option

Reviewer: N. Ferguson, Ohio
What you think about this product will depend largely upon your feelings about the scent. I found the thyme fragrance pleasant, but those who want to smell bleach to feel something is clean may find it odd.

I also found these cloths to be a bit too "sudsy". But on balance the thyme extract concept is interesting and a more hand-friendly option than bleach-based disinfectants.

In general I really like Seventh Generation products. But it does seem weird to buy an "eco-friendly" product in a plastic dispenser...will be sure to recycle it!

I am a big user of Seventh Generation products and, in general, really like them. I'm not quite sure about these disinfecting wipes, however.

Pros:
Contains thymol (from thyme). Thymol is a safer disinfectant than many commercial disinfectants on the market.
Contains non-VOC-emitting ingredients.
Kills 99.99% of germs botanically.
Is effective on salmonella, pseudomonas aeruginosa (found in houseplants with water), and Influenza A (seasonal flu).
Might be effective with HIV (controversial).
Great herbal smell, love it. The scent officially is "lemongrass and thyme".
One wipe lasts a long time and does a lot of work.

Cons:
Thymol may or may not be effective with MRSA (this is controversial).
The great smell lingers on my hands for a long, long time, even after hand-washing, which I don't like. Some people can be allergic to it; I am not.
Surface must stay wet for 10 minutes in order for the germs to be botanically killed (although no rinsing or wiping is required except on direct food contact surfaces---if this is the case, rinse with potable water after treatment).

All in all I would recommend them, if you like the scent, and if you don't mind rinsing in the kitchen. And if you don't mind the smell on your hands.

I have purchased disinfecting wipes in the past, but they have been those sold by Lysol or Clorox. I generally like them because they are quick and easy to use, and I like how they clean and leave a fresh smell.

These wipes are better than the other brands in some ways. First of all it's nice to have something that is considered green and not harmful for the environment. But they are also very good because they are "wetter" than the other wipes I've used - you can use one wipe to pretty much clean an entire small bathroom sink and tub. Because the way wipes disinfect is by leaving a surface wet for 10 minutes, it's easy with this product. When you glide the wipe over a surface it almost leaves a bubbly soap - but it disappears and leave the surface clean.

Plus, this product claims to kill all influenza A viruses, as well as Salmonella. I use it to clean my cutting boards all the time. And because wipes are so easy to use I have (finally) found the magic product to get my son and his roommates at college to clean their bathroom. Thank the heavens.

So here's the negative - the smell. For many people this won't be a problem. I didn't mind it that much, and the benefits listed above outweighed any problem I had with the thyme/ and lemongrass scent. But I would recommend checking out the smell yourself before you buy this product in any great quantity. Part of the problem may be that we are used to the artificial and perhaps environmentally harmful "clean" smells of most of the disinfecting products we've bought in the past. But this does smell different, and just be aware of that before you get this.
Nice Product, A Little Hard to Dispense

These wipes are an eco-friendly (or at least, friendlier) version of swipe and wipe cleaning cloths. I use them to wipe up quick toddler or pet spills off the floor, or in the bathroom, and find they work quite well for that purpose. They're thick and don't tear easily, but will leave streaks on dark or shiny surfaces, like most kitchen counters. (As do all standard brands of most wipes I've tried.) I can't vouch for their antibacterial properties, but guess it probably doesn't hurt. All in nice product, even if the dispenser can be a little hard to use--another problem just about every cleaning wipe has.

These disinfecting wipes have a very soft cottony feel, and a light, natural aroma that is a nice, clean smell, but not the typical "cleaner" smell. Other than the smell, the only other difference I see between these and other disinfecting wipes is that I found that they are a little foamy, like when you are wiping it leaves a slight sudsy feel on the surface and your hands. I prefer the wipes that don't feel soapy, but after it dries I haven't noticed any residue and no remaining smell whatsoever. Overall though, I like the product and would recommend them.
A decent more environmentally friendly disinfecting wipe

Review Date: April 23, 2010
Reviewer: Alain B. Burrese, Missoula, MT
After using these wipes, my initial thoughts are they do a decent job. They are pretty wet right out of the container, and a bit sudsy, and allow you to clean a rather large surface area. It is good that they are wet, because the packaging says to disinfect you should leave visibly wet for 10 minutes and allow to air dry. Honestly, after wiping something down, I don't watch it and time it to see if it is visibly wet for 10 minutes. I guess I just hope it stays wet for a long enough period to kill the 99.9 germs the package says it will, including influenza virus.

I don't find the smell bad. It is certainly better than some chemicals I've cleaned with, but maybe not as "fresh" smelling as some of the other scented wipes I've used. The smell does tend to stay on your hands for quite a while afterwards, so if you don't want that you may want to clean with gloves. However, while cleaning with gloves is the norm for certain cleaning with certain chemicals, you usually don't want to glove up before using a simple wipe. That's why you use wipes. Therefore, you end up with your hands smelling for a while.

One thing I didn't like was the warning that "no rinsing or wiping is required except on direct food contact surfaces which require a potable water rinse after treatment." This was after the instructions to leave on wet for 10 minutes to disinfect. If I used one for the counter that will have food on it, I don't really want to come back after 10 minutes to wash the counter down with water. So I see these being used in other rooms than the kitchen more. I especially like them for wiping down certain exercise equipment and mats after use.

I like the idea of more natural cleaners and less toxic chemicals. I like that Seventh Generation provides products that are more environmentally responsible. I think the bottom line for most people will be the smell. If you like it, you'll use these wipes. If you don't, especially since the smell stays on yours hands a while, you won't. I can't prove that they kill 99.99% of germs, but I'm taking the packaging on face value and sure hope they are. (I would say the same about any wipes and claims)

If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly disinfecting wipe, I'd say give these a try. I'm guessing it will be how you feel about the smell that will determine if you purchase again. We didn't mind the smell and found them to be good wipes.

Not being a purist, I've been using a combination of standard and natural based household products for years.
I prefer to use something natural based when practical.

We have a black stove that I often clean with Clorox wipes. The Clorox wipes do a great job of cutting grease and cleaning, but I usually follow-up with a glass cleaner to remove any faint film and streaks.

The Seventh Generation wipes really did clean almost as well as the Clorox wipes.
I like the smell too. The thymol smell is clean and slightly medicinal.
The wipes were very moist and slightly sudsy.
I felt they left a bit more film on the surfaces than the Clorox wipes, but even the Clorox wipes don't leave some surfaces completely streak-free.

I feel the Seventh Generation wipes are a great alternative for anyone wanting to use natural products.
With both on hand, I plan to place this tub in the bathroom.

These wipes make cleaning and sanitizing easy and much more pleasant!

I'm not a huge fan of disposables, but sometimes it does work better than keeping a bushel of clean rags on hand. These Seventh Generation wipes use thymol for disinfecting rather than bleach or other harsher chemicals; I can clean and clean without bothering my sensitive skin, and every little flyspeck comes away. They are scented with lemongrass oil on top of the thyme oil, so it's a pleasant lemony/herbal fragrance. I'm painting my bathroom right now, and I used the wipes to scrub the walls before painting, since they were handy and I was also engaged in my continuing battle against MRSA. The old walls came so clean that, if I hadn't disliked the old color so much, I could have skipped the painting. I am going to keep these on hand at all times in the future and never buy the harsher brands again.
Bit soapier than the usual wipe.

It's a cleaning wipe. It's not like you won't know what it is. :)

I've used many of these in my time, and this does the job as well as any of the others. It's kind of hard to write a real review of these. It's not like I can measure the "Kills 99.9% of germs" claim on surfaces I've used it with, so that has to be thrown out.

As a wipe cleaning up dirt, it does it's job. However, they're significantly wetter than any other wipe of this kind I've used. When I pulled the first couple out of the container, they were so wet, I was able to squeeze them, and have more than 1 or 2 drops fall on the floor.

The surface I wiped got clean enough, but it had a LOT of soap on it - way more than the usual wipe like this I'm used to. With other wipes, you wipe your surface, and it dries prety quickly. These wipes are so full of water that it doesn't dry nearly as quickly - I wanted to bring an extra paper towel to dry it afterwards. Which seems somewhat counter productive.

However, it did clean up nicely, just wetter than most wipes. It also had a scent which I was unaccustomed to. Not bad, or overpowering, but I wasn't used to wipes having a scent when I used them.
Environmentally friendly. Strong smell.

I like products that are more gentle to the environment. This company is known for that. This disinfecting wipes kill 99% of germs including salmonella. But no, don't ask me to prove that. Houses 70 sheets in a fairly huge tub. (A little bigger and I can use it as a rain catcher; that will make it more greener). Really moist. The dispenser is pretty easy to attach. It smells very herbal with some thyme and oregano in it, but otherwise, it comes to me a little strong. We use it mostly for the kitchen counters and bathrooms. A little sudsy, when you rub it on surface. Made in USA.

(I was intrigue by the brand name 7th Generation, it turned out it came from an Iroquis law that decisions should be made with the consideration of its impact to the next seven generations. Their products are mostly from recycled and bio-degradable materials.)

The only real negative is the smell, which is vaguely spicy, vaguely lemony, but mostly chemicalish, which is odd for a product that touts how natural it is. But the wipes are tough and stand up to scrubbing, and they pick up dirt well.

How well they disinfect, I can't tell you. The instructions do mention, in smallish print, that to get a disinfectant effect, you should leave the surface damp after wiping for a few minutes, and if you want to use the surface for food preparation, you need to rinse it off after letting it stand. (Why, if it's as natural a product as they claim?) If you're in a hurry, something more aggressively toxic and bleach-based, is probably faster and simpler. But for my purpose, it's been fine.

I am always looking for alternative ways to clean other than harsh chemicals. The problem is that I have found some natural products to be more allergy giving than the chemicals, so I was a little leery with this product. I have heard of this company and know that they are doing a wonderful job at trying to help our planet, and that is a good thing, so I wanted to give it a try.

One problem that hit me right away, I did not like the strong smell that is on the wipes, to me it is not a pleasant smell. Perhaps I am just use to the chemical smells of other wipes. The wipes however are a good size and as I used one it definitely held the moisture. It did a good job at cleaning off the sinks and toilet seat and I felt it truly was clean. I also used them on door knobs and counter tops in the kitchen. I felt confident that the germs were being taken care of and that is important to me. Now if I could just get past the smell this would be a product I would use daily. It truly does a good job.

The nice part about these wipes is that they don't have a lot of the nasty chemicals in some of the other regular household wipes. That's the good part. My wife is not so worried about children touching these either. But they do have one slight negative. They are lemongrass scented and they definitely smell like it. So while they're nice, the smell kind of reminds us of bug spray. At least they're not as toxic.

The Seventh Generation Disinfecting Multi-Surface Wipes seem to work well. Do they actually disinfect? The only way to find that out would be to take a culture from the surface that you are cleaning before and after using this product to find the true answer. For just general cleaning purposes, not taking into consideration if they actually disinfect, these wipes work well. They don't leave behind a sticky residue. They wipes are thick so they are durable for cleaning multiple surfaces. Each cloth has plenty of cleaning solution in it too. I find that they are a bit more on the moister side than Clorox wipes (unless you count those last couple of wipes left at the bottom). My only complaint with these wipes is that I really don't care for the scent. Scent is a personal thing, so while some may like the smell of them, others may not. I have been using these wipes for wiping down the bathroom sink and toilet and they seem to be doing a good job. I probably will go back to using my Clorox wipes after these are gone though because of the scent.
Great cleaning ability, but entirely too wet and foamy

These disinfectant wipes are handy for quick clean-ups in the bathrooms. I'm finding them quite handy to use around the sink and toilet in-between weekly cleanings. Since they are environmentally-friendly, I feel better about using them in the home.

I'm actually quite surprised about how "wet" the product is. I'd probably use the word "soaked". The roll of wipes in the container are thoroughly saturated, much more than any other wipe-based product I've ever used. A side-effect of this, however, is that a single wipe tends to foam entirely too much on any surface, often compelling me to wipe it dry with another cloth or paper towel. However, you can expect decent-cleaning action because of this.

The solution definitely has an organic-herbal scent. It's not "chemical fresh". Personally, I'd have to say it's a bit pungent. The scent also lingers much longer than anything else -- which is good, because that's what I want, particularly in bathrooms where odd odors sometimes linger for no apparent reason. It definitely takes a while to get adjusted to the smell.

I don't recommend using these in the kitchen, because you have to rinse the surface with water. Despite being environmentally-friendly, you'll definitely want to wash your hands after using these wipes. Also, expect the scent to linger on you if you don't.

If you like to keep your bathrooms clean, I highly recommend these.

Having a small child and pets in the house, we've been making a concerted effort to go "green", using fewer toxic chemicals for all of our households needs. This of course includes cleaning products. We ordered these wipes in an attempt to depart from going spray-happy with lysol/clorox which has been known to give us headaches from time to time after intense use.

These wipes are great! I know people complain about the smell, but being home cooks, we rather like the thyme/lemongrass scent. It's a bit strong at first, but fades quickly, leaving just the remnants of a smell reminiscent of a well-seasoned dish.

My only complaints are these:
1. The dispenser "catch" point is poorly engineered and often leads to the wipes either falling back into the canister, or sticking out and drying up. Annoying.
2. There is an awful lot of liquid at the bottom of the canister, maybe these don't soak up the moisture as well?

Anyway, I consider these to be minor issues and still recommend this product.

We used these during our move, and they helped for quick wipes and spills. The package and design allow for quick removal of the moist towels, and we didn't run into issues of pulling the whole roll out, as we had with other brands. The towels are very moist so they helped clean areas that otherwise would not have been cleaned with less wet towels. We've used brands like Clorox etc, and they seem to dry out much faster than these. The one thing that was a bit overwhelming was the smell. They have a less than subtle pine/mint smell, but it is very strong. I certainly would not use them near areas where people are eating, as the smell is quite distracting. However, I would still recommend the product as it is very effective and durable.
Ancient formula, unusual scent

Whether you like these wipes or not will depend to a great extent on what you think of the scent. It is not particularly strong but it is distinctive, and it lingers.

The active ingredient is thymol, a naturally occurring compound that has been used (as a constituent of various plant oils) for thousands of years for its antiseptic properties. Today you will find it in many mouthwash and toothpaste formulations. That may give you a clue as to the sort of scent it has.

The tissues are well-sodden and so an application goes a long way. They seem to be as effective as other wipes. They are worth a try.
Different from regular surface wipes

Reviewer: Hervian Rose,
The good: These have lots more solution than regular surface wipes, so you can do some serious clean-up with them.
The bad: you have to leave the surface visibly wet for ten minutes to get the bacteriocidal effects.
So they are not as useful as the ones containing bleach and really serious disinfectants.

The jury is out: it smells like herb tea. Not an unpleasant smell, but nothing that would tell you "this place is debugged"

When you combine the smell with the warnings about eye/skin irritation, I opted to leave this to be a garage cleaner, and use outside away from the kids only. Sadly, I find myself in the "can't stand the smell" camp. The towels are very wet and seem to clean surfaces fairly well...but I can't say I like the smell.

I use the Clean Well spray. These smell just the same. The major thing I do not like, is there is a lack of ingredient listing. When most of the product is listed at "Other", what is that? Why can't they list it too?

I have no way of knowing if it kills things. It does wash off dirt and yuck in the car well. I have them in my vehicle for use after soccer games and practices. The kids come clean, and hopefully germ free, along with all the gear.

I would hesitate to buy again simply due to the lack of labeling.

Pro: Plenty of solution on each towel

Con: Bad smell (lemongrass and thyme)

I liked the towels and there ability to clean. They have plenty of cleaning solution on them and they do not tear with normal use. I actually found them quite durable. I have a strong dislike for the scent they chose however and will not get them again. If you like the smell of lemongrass and thyme you may have a better opinion of these wipes.

As a participant in Amazon.com's VINE Program, I selected this product assuming that it was a sample of what is generally regarded as a "wipe" ('Monk' of television fame, fans will recall, always had wipes available to him whenever he would make contact with a person, an animal, or... well, most anything!). After receiving these wipes, however, we learned that they were intended only for cleaning such items in the home as counters, tables, et al. The instructions on the container do not specifically exclude the use of these wipes on one's hands... but neither did anything on the container suggest that they be used for items other than home or shop surfaces, etc. We'll continue to try them for that specific purpose... but we were disappointed that we can't use them in the car, for example, and having them available for disinfecting our hands--such as after a round of golf before eating. Because of their limited use, the product is being given a three-star rating.

If that smell bothers you then this is not the product for you.
You might want to wear gloves when using them if it bothers you.
I personally like the smell. The smell helps to get rid of foul odors that might be on the surface
you are cleaning (kitchen trash can, toilets ect) so for me it's a good thing.
I liked it and would use it again. I found it to be fast and easy.

*Update* After using this product for a period of time. I have to lower my rating to 3 stars.
Yes it works very well but it doesn't work the way I want it to. I want a wet wipe that is quick and easy to use.
Due the the strong smell I must wear gloves to use this product. The smell will linger for a long time if you don't.
Even if you wash your hands after the smell will linger. For me this product is more for major clean ups using rubber gloves.
The smell it leaves on surfaces doesn't bother me much. It smells clean enough. I just can't bear that smell on my person.
Seems like some don't mind and some do. At first it didn't bother me but now it does.
I still like the idea just not the smell on my hands.

The first thing I noticed after opening the lid was the smell. I can't really compare it to anything although they list it as Lavender and Thyme--didn't care for it. The other thing is how wet the sheets when pulled out. I had to wring them out in the kitchn sink before taking it to the other room. The final "off-putting" quality is the amount of soap in the sheet. It looked almost as if you had wet the counter, then a bar of soap, lathered it, and put it on the counter. I had to get another cleanser to clean off the film of soap--very counterproductive. On the plus side, however, it did seem to clean well--but no better or worse than any national brand store purchased product.

To me there are essentially three factors that govern a wipes value: cleaning ability, odor and effect on skin. Cost does not matter within reason. Seventh Generation cleans most surfaces without difficulty. I do not have any real dirty surfaces that require a disinfecting wipe. I cannot attest to the chemical properties and its ability to rid the surface of germs other than the smell it produces. The odor is almost breathtaking and powerfully strong in a bad way. Simply put: it stinks. So far we have a good cleaner that stinks. That's O.K. but the deal breaker is the condition it caused my fingers to crack and peal. I sincerely hate the thought of wearing rubber gloves when cleaning my sinks and so forth.

I was very excited when I saw a "green" product come out that would clean and disinfect my counters, tables, etc. just like my Clorox wipes, which I love. I am giving them only 2 stars because the smell is awful. I don't mean just bad, but awful. They call the scent "lemongrass & thyme". There is not a hint of lemon in this scent. It smells like a real bad generic toilet bowl cleaner. And the worst part is that I washed my hands twice AND put on lotion and I can still smell it on my skin. My husband especially does not like loosing money, but he said to throw the whole case out because the smell was making him sick too. I don't understand why they could not make the smell pleasant - citrus is all natural - give me an orange or lemon scent! I have had good luck with other Seventh Generation products for my babies, so I am highly disappointed that I am out $35 for these wipes.

Great Stinky Cleaner, Product Has an MSDS

Reviewer: feminist military spouse, Akron, OH
Look these cleaned my counters superbly. I can't complain about that. And they are very moist so one wipe will get most of my kitchen counters completely clean and I have a ton of counter top space to cover.
But my god do they stink! Because thymol is an organic aromatic compound, you can't miss the smell and it appears to bind to the lipids in your skin, causing the smell to remain on my fingers after washing them. It's been over an hour now and they still smell.

NOW THE IMPORTANT STUFF:

1. Material Safety Data Sheet for this product because of the thymol.

2. "Keep out of the reach of children" Thymol is a Class I eye irritant and a Class II skin irritant. EPA states that this compound should not be used for indoor residential, or day care use. It is also a skin sensitizer, which means that you may develop a reaction to this compound with repeated exposure.

3.From the back of the label: "Wash food contact surfaces with potable water after use." Doesn't this defeat the purpose of using the surface wipes? I don't want to wipe my counters twice.

4. Sensitive Skin. I have sensitive skin and my skin freaked out.

VERDICT:
This is a no go.There are too many risks and not enough reasons to use the product. For green products that don't require an MSDS usemethod Cleaning Wipes, Cucumber, Case Pack, Six - 30 Count Tubs (180 Wipes).
For a superb disinfectant go with Green Works Natural Wipes, Original, 30-Count Packages (Pack of 12)s. The active ingredient is ethanol, which is what we use in our lab as anti-microbial agent. It is also used in some hand-sanitizers and is effective in very low concentrations. They are also compostable.
I have used both of these products and love them both.

These are terrible. I couldn't recommend them to anyone, as they don't really do the job, they're wasteful, but most importantly, they're vile.

Pros:
- They come out of the canister easily
- They're Seventh Generation, so they're "green"

Cons:
- They smell absolutely awful. Like some vile chemical leached up from the earth, formed into a wipe, and then spread its demon seed around. The smell is overpowering and sticks on your skin. I used it about an hour ago and my hands still reek from it.
- They don't wipe up very well
- You have to rinse after you use it! What's the point, folks?

On the package these wipes have a warning to keep away from children and to rinse it off after using on surfaces that come into contact with food. Though interestingly the container also states that you can use it on children's toys and changing tables.

I guess with the Seventh Generation name brand I had been expecting something more natural with less precautions. I think I'll stick to cleaning off our table and countertops with a natural dish washing liquid or a vinegar and water wipe.

While this product may disinfect, it is a terrible cleaner.
The wipes do not remove much of anything, are small, and you would need to use a multiple of them to go over a sink, tub and commode in an average bathroom.
Costly in the long run and not ecologically the best either, even with recycling, we have to dispose of these towels, the container etc.
Will use my remaining towels to go over the bathroom areas in an extra attempt to keep germs at bay, but will not purchase.
