Helps with calming ADD/ADHD
|
| Review Date: June 24, 2009 |
| Reviewer: M. SMITH, Hermosa Beach, CA |
I did some research and found that Krill Oil is even more potent than the high quality fish oil I was taking, I think due to the Phospholipid structure of the oil and how the EPA and DHA are attached at the molecular level. The trigliceride structure of the fish oil is not as biovalable (the percentage your body actually utilizes) as the Krill Oil in the phospholipid structure.
I found that the Krill Oil seemed more efficient and cost effective in delivering the same results.
How I got on to Omega-3s as a treatment for ADD/ADHD:
A friend of mine who has always had a problem with ADD/ADHD told me that he was taking something that changed his life. (I have also struggled with ADD/ADHD my whole life.) He reccomended a brand of high quality fish oil. I tried two bottles of the capsules, no fish burps like many people have experienced (thats just my stomach).
The results from the Omega-3s in the fish oil were an increase in my mental focus, being able to think clearly, calmness, sleeping at night, have been dramatic to say the least. I can stay on task at work much better than I ever had. I feel more 'in the zone" and focused than ever before. Perhaps its my reaction, but for me to sit down and write something like this. It means something. The krill oil has the exact same effects.
I will take this stuff for the rest of my life or until another homeopathic ADD/ADHD treatment is found to be more effective.
Hope this helps you guys/gals out there.

| My cholesterol was high enough that a statin was prescribed for me. I decided instead to try to lower it on my own.. I took krill oil, cut way back on saturated fat, added psyllium husk and Benecol chews. IN one month my cholesterol was in normal lmits. I"m not sure which factor had the most impact.. I suspect it was a combination. In my diet, I had already eliminated most processed foods, white flour, sugar, etc.. |
THE BEST CURE FOR KNEE PAIN
|
| Review Date: November 5, 2008 |
| Reviewer: Bette J. Neiman, |
| I tried this product for a week only and found it to be amazing......I had terrible knee pain and couldn't get rid of the pain, everything I had tried "OTC" in the past didn't work, the only thing that would help was darvocett which is a very strong pain killer and habit forming. I now take this Neptune Krill oil everyday and have found myself telling everyone I know about this. It has really changed the way I look at my day now, I can freely exercise without worrying that I will be sore afterwards. You must try it for yourself and you will be very pleased. |

Hate how the pills smell, but they are effective

| Reviewer: Gen of North Coast Gardening, California |
Tim Ferriss, author of The Four Hour Workweek, recommended these on his blog for helping with brain function and inflammation of joints, and gave evidence that they're better than fish oil.
It's always hard to tell what's helping, but I do feel somewhat more clear-headed than usual after about three weeks of taking these pills daily, and my joints don't hurt as much as they usually do, even though the colder weather of the last few weeks should be making them hurt more.
The pills do stink of fishiness, but once I swallow them, there haven't been any yucky fishy burps, so that puts them ahead of most fish oil pills. |

| Source Naturals is a reliable supplement manufacturer. Krill oil, like fish oil, has EPA and DHA Omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, krill oil has phospholipids and the antioxidant astaxanthin. I take fish oil soft gels with breakfast and dinner, and krill oil softgels with lunch. The Amazon.com price is significantly lower than Whole Foods Market. |

| If you have done any research on Krill Oil you already know the potential benefits so rather than list them I would just like to point out that you can pay quite a bit more for the same product depending on who you buy from. This NKO product appears to be the exact same as another that I had paid almost 2x the price. If you want Krill Oil then buy this brand and you won't have any regrets about getting ripped off by paying for a brand. |

I won't go into the benefits of krill oil here since you can google for it. Instead I'll talk about the product.
There are multiple brands and all get their krill oil from Neptune who seems to have a monopoly on it. I focused on brand reputation and positive reviews. Source Naturals seemed to have the least negative reviews amongst all.
Value: Don't rely on the number of gels per bottle since some brands contain less omega-3's per capsule. The Source Naturals contain 150mg omega-3 per gel. And make sure it's per gel since some supplement facts list per serving which can be two gels. What I did was divide the price by total amount of omega-3's in the bottle to get a price per gram. To get the best value, make sure you get free shipping, and usually the bigger bottles are cheaper per unit. I know that the benefits of krill oil is more than omega-3's, this was just a basic calculation.
Taste: One reason why people don't get fish oil is because they can't stand the taste of it. I can say that krill oil does not have any fish oil taste. If you simply swallow the gel cap, you don't get any krill taste at all. I crushed one krill oil capsule in my mouth just to see what that tasted like, and it tastes like dried shrimp, or shrimp paste, and not much after taste. It's a very small capsule about 1/2 the size of regular adult fish oil capsules so it should be easy to swallow.
There isn't any doubt that omega-3's are good for you. Krill oil's omega-3's are supposed to be better and it contains astaxanthin as well. I've bought so many brands of omega-3s to try that I take a different one in the morning and a different one in the evening. So I'm taking some omega-3's from cod, some from anchovies and sardines and some from krill; I assume a varied diet can only be better than a diet of only 1 kind of omega-3. |

I switched from the previous "generic" Omega 3 I was taking that had had no impact on my cholesterol or the way I felt to this one....
This Krill Oil has no bad aftertaste or burping (unlike my previous Omega 3 Fish Oil), and I feel as if joint pain I was having (achy knees, shoulder) has subsided since I started taking two of these a day. I'll update this review once I get my cholesterol #'s back, but I have added this Krill Oil + Psyllium Fiber + Vitamin D + 200 mcg CoQ10 daily and am hopeful. We'll see what the results are. |
Worked for my Cholesterol
|
| Review Date: May 29, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Normal Guy, Houston, TX USA |
I will keep my review simple. Please keep in mind that I am not a doctor. I am just sharing my experience with you. My cholesterol was 245. My cardiologist put me on one of the statins. He prescribed 20mg. I did ask around and most of the doctors in my family highly recommended that i go on it. Actually, most of them were already on it. However, I decided to conduct my own research and found out that Krill Oil seems to have proven effective in lowering Cholesterol. I did the following: Took NKO Krill Oil once a day (3 pills; 1500mg)based on a few articles I read, such as this one [...] it listed that Krill oil 1-3 g/day (BMI-dependent) was found to be effective for the reduction of glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and HDL, compared to both fish oil and placebo.
I took NKO Krill Oil for 6 months instead of the statin that my doctor recommended. However, please note that my plan change had too many variables, since I started to take Cholest Off from Nature Made also, twice a day (2 pills per dose), started excercising twice a week and skipped eating bleached flour of any kind, increased my fiber and reserved all natural sugar intake for the weekend. Typical food schedule was: 7AM High fiber cereal with Silk Cholesterol Lowering Soy Milk, Almonds and Carrots for snack at 9AM, Chicken, Turkey, Tuna or Salads for Lunch, 2PM fruit snacks, 600PM one of the options from lunch that I did not have. No food past 7PM. Work out Tue/Th.
I met with my cardiologist 6 months later (which was the date he was supposed to see me after taking the statin). He was extremely happy with my blood results and commended me on my new numbers and told me that I can stay off the Statin. My Cholesterol had dropped to 189. Please keep in mind that this might not work for you. I am in no way recommending that you skip taking statins. Its just that this combination (all things included) worked for me and I am glad that I was able to, at least for now, skip taking statins. |

| yes they smell fishy when you open the bottle, but absolutely no aftertaste or fish-burps. (i do this because i am a larger man)... also perhaps unrelated my light acne seems to have completely disapear although ive only been taking this for 2 weeks................also unlike some ppl have said that it takes up to 3 weeks to kick in think since i already took fish oil regularly the krill oil seemed to take effect emediately |
Took it for its size, overwhelmed by results
|
| Review Date: August 9, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Chief, |
I started taking Krill oil because I was looking for a smaller pill then the fish oil capsules I was taking, as I have difficulty swallowing large pills.
I did not expect the results I received, I was scheduled for carpel tunnel surgery, my carpel tunnel was not caused by repetitive action, but arthritis in my wrist was caused by severe trauma suffered many years ago.
About a week after I started taking 1 gram (two softgels) I noticed that my carpel tunnel symptoms began to lessen, at the same time time I noticed the inflammation and swelling that had been present for more then a year began to shrink.
After three weeks I saw my doctor who canceled the surgery and told me to continue what ever I was doing because it was working.
It has been six months now and my wrist is 95% to what it was before my arthritis flared up, taking Krill is the only change I made. I do not know if it is lowering my HDL or some of the other benefits that is credited Krill but am anxious to find out. I recommend this product completely. I have never recommended any other supplement in my life.

This is a fish oil type of product, similar to others that are promoted as a "healthy heart"
supplement. Well, I don't know about that benefit and I have not seen any surveys that endorse
it for that use. But I am taking it because I needed to increase my "good cholesterol" levels.
But I have found that an important side effect is that it also increases the intensity and
frequency of my erections. Worth the purchase price. |

How Do I Rate Something Like This?
|
| Review Date: April 26, 2010 |
| Reviewer: M. Cartwright, Oceanside, California |
| After my heart attack, I tired this and a lot of other supplements in an effort to better control my health and better manage my condition. To read all I have here At Amazon, people make it sound like taking ANY of these supplements will make you feel like a kid again, cure everything that ails you etc. Reading all these reviews, I felt like the times may have changed but NOT the story. It used to be called snake oil. Now? Well lets just call it "Supplements oil"..... I have 2+ full months under my belt now and every single ONE of these things was allegedly going to be FELT and felt in just a couple of days.....Well I have the 2 months, and feel NOTHING. Period. Do they help? No idea. But found out my cholesterol is even a bit WORSE and my triglycerides and my HDL is worse. I have done all you are supposed to do and yet here I am. So to be fair, I rate this and all my supplements with 3 stars. Why? Simple. Don't know if they work, or don't. I know what they COST. And it doesn't bother me in the least because I know at least I tried. Along with exercise and the rest. I won't be buying any more of any of these supplements. But I will continue to eat healthy and exercise. It was worth a try right? |

Good Supplier, Pregnancy-like Side Effect
|
| Review Date: December 11, 2008 |
| Reviewer: R. Della Rosa, |
As found in various reviews and studies, taking a Krill Oil supplement showed good results for improving nutrition and health. (Many will show up in a Google search for Krill Oil.)
However my wife took these pills and had bad side effects.
Pros:
- Good Supplier / Quick Shipping (DAB Nutrition)
- No fish taste or bad breath after taking
Cons
- Nausea
- Bad Acne
- Food cravings (Same foods as when pregnant)
- And many other common pregnancy side effects
She took them for about two weeks and couldn't take it anymore. The good news is that it has been about two weeks since she stopped taking them and everything is back to normal.
In case you were wondering: She is not pregnant, nor has anything else ever affected her in this way other than being pregnant. This was also the only supplement change during the two week period she took them.
Most everything else out there was very positive on Krill Oil, so I wanted to post this review to show there at least can be negative side effects. |
NKO Krill Oil
|
| Review Date: May 8, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Ben Cisco, |
I hesitate to give this product only one star for a couple of reasons. First, I believe that Source Naturals makes high quality supplements. In fact, I use some of their other products (including Omega 3 Fish Oil) and will continue to use them. Second, I did not take the krill oil long enough to be able to determine its effectiveness.
Having said that, the one star rating is because I could not tolerate the "fishiness" of the krill oil. The odor upon opening the bottle was almost overwhelming. I took two capsules with breakfast and the fish taste and odor stayed with me the rest of the day. One dose was all I could deal with.
I should mention that I never eat shellfish. So, if you're accustomed to eating shellfish, your experience might not be so bad. |
1 star for now (Slime feel and smells)
|
| Review Date: September 3, 2010 |
| Reviewer: E. Ament, Kentucky |
Can't be sure if the product is bad or another factor played a part. It was sealed by plastic and there was a seal under the lid. The experation date was good. Source Naturals seems pretty good.
Only two things can be possible problems I suspect. 1. It took forever to get to me. I mean, it has traveled more than I will ever travel. Poor krill. First it gets plucked from its freezing water only to be squeezed to death and have its oil distributed out of Pheonix, Az (The hottest place on the planet). It then took a tour of FedEx in America. It went from Pheonix to Dallas, to Wisconsin, to Indianopolis to me over a two week period. 2. I don't get krill oil in genral. Maybe slime is part of the deal. Two months ago I started with fish oil from Wonder Labs. It wasn't slimy or it didn't stink nearly that much. If I don't get it, set me straight before I return it.
Maybe my vote will change! |
